Agreement with the University Hospital


On Tuesday, January 12th the Institute signed a document extending the cooperation with the University Hospital in Krakow. The agreement concerns proton radiotherapy for patients with eye cancer, which now will be held at the Bronowice Cyclotron Center, opened at the Institute of Nuclear Physics, October 15th, 2015. The agreement was signed in the presence of Professor Marek Jeżabek, the Director of the IFJ PAN; Professor Pawel Olko, the Director of the CCB; Barbara Bulanowska, the Director of the University Hospital and  Professor Bozena Romanowska-Dixon, the Head of the Clinic of  Ophthalmology and Ocular Oncology of the University Hospital. Proton eye radiotherapy at the Institute has been hold since 2011. However,  until 2013,  it was done as medical experiment. The first cooperation agreement with the University Hospital, in the frames of the procedure guaranteed by the National Health Fund, also concerned the treatment of eye cancer. Until the end of 2015 this procedure has been carried out for more than 100 patients with eye melanoma. The Institute of Nuclear Physics is the only center in Poland, where this type of radiotherapy is performed.
